Centre For Athletic Testing (C.A.T.)

The Centre for Athletic testing (C.A.T.) is coordinated by Associate Professor Brian Dawson and run by the School's exercise physiology Ph.D students. CAT is primarily designed to offer fitness testing and training advice for the community, especially those athletes and teams that do not have major government or corporate support. For a service fee, CAT will either travel to your location or perform the requested testing here at the School of Human Movement and Exercise Science. The following tests are routinely performed by CAT staff:

  1. Maximum oxygen consumption (laboratory or field)
  2. Anaerobic threshold
  3. Bicycle sprint and power (e.g. 6 second sprint, 5 x 6 second repeated sprint)
  4. Running sprint times (e.g. 10 metre/40 metre/100 metre) using electronic timing gates
  5. Vertical jump
  6. Skinfolds

Other types of testing are available by negotiation.

Staff from CAT will also provide advice on training programs, nutrition, drugs and supplements, environmental considerations (e.g. heat, altitude) and travel as required. Sports psychology services and biomechanical (technique) analysis can also be coordinated through CAT.
