Uniswim is an aquatics program within the School of Sport Science Exercise and Health (SSEH) at The University of Western Australia (UWA). It began in 1981 with a few lessons taught by Mrs Jeanette and Professor Brian Blanksby but quickly grew into a large learn-to-swim, junior and senior coaching, and adult/elderly swimming classes. More recently, the program has expanded to include triathlon and water polo. As well as providing a valuable community service, Uniswim provides opportunities for HMES majors to gain micro teaching and coaching experiences in their chosen area of study. Similarly, clients are often included in research projects for Honours and Post Graduate students. To date, many thousands of local and nearby community members of both genders, aged from 5 to 80+, have used the facilities generously made available by UWA for educational, health and fitness purposes.
