Biography:
Robert Grove joined the academic staff of The University of Western Australia in 1984 and holds a tenured appointment as a Professor within the School of Sport Science, Exercise and Health. He also serves as Deputy Dean of the UWA Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences. His educational qualifications include a PhD in Movement Science from Florida State University, an MA in Social and Organisational Psychology from Southern Methodist University, and a BA in Psychology from Furman University. His professional qualifications include membership in the Australian Psychological Society's College of Sport Psychology, specialist registration as a Sport Psychologist with the Psychologist's Board of Western Australia, and Fellow status within the Research Consortium of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
Professor Grove has published more than 130 chapters, articles, or reviews in academic and professional outlets. He has also authored over 100 presentations at professional and academic conferences throughout Australia, Asia, Europe, and North America. He is currently an Associate Editor for Group Dynamics: Theory, Research and Practice, and he is also a member of the editorial board for the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology. In the past, he has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology, the Australian Psychologist, and the Australian Journal of Science and Medicine and Sport. From 1994-2005, he was the Editor of the Sport Psychologist's Digest section of the Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology.
Professor Grove´s research has addressed a variety of issues related to the social psychology of exercise, health, and sport. In particular, he has made noteworthy contributions to the advancement of knowledge about the relationship of individual difference factors to cognitions and behaviour in exercise, health, and sport settings. He has also made significant contributions to knowledge about attribution processes, mood states, injury rehabilitation, career transitions, coping behaviour, and the psychological aspects of exercise.
