| Biography:
Bruce Elliott, one of Australia's leading sport scientists, is a professor in biomechanics at the School of Sport Science, Exercise and Health at the University of Western Australia. He has a passion for sport biomechanics having published over 180 articles in internationally refereed journals, along with having written or edited 14 books and 43 book chapters. He has supervised 46 Honours, 18 Masters and 18 PhD students to completion and has won University awards for outstanding teaching and research supervision. He recently was a member of a research team that received a NH&MRC grant for, $1,065,000 to study "A randomised controlled trial of exercise programs for preventing knee injuries - 2006-2008".
He was the inaugural chair of the Western Australian Institute of Sport (1984-1994), inaugural Vice-President (sports science) in the Australian Association of Exercise and Sports Science (1993-1995) and is a fellow of Sports Medicine Australia, the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, the International Society of Sport Biomechanics and the American Association of Kinesiology and Physical Education. He was appointed by the IOC to Chair for the 5th IOC World Congress on Sport Sciences for the 2000 Sydney Olympics and was responsible for administering the Applied Projects at these Olympics. In 2003 he was awarded the Centenary Medal "for service to sport policy and research development for sport".
