Biography:

David Lloyd is a senior lecturer in biomechanics and motor control in the School of Sport Science, Exercise and Health, University of Western Australia (UWA). He also director of the UWA Gait Laboratory. David did his Ph.D. at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. This was followed by postdoctoral fellowship at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and Northwestern University, Chicago, USA where was a recipient of a NIH Fogarty International Fellowship.

David now oversees a research group whose main areas of study are in neuromuscular joint stabilisation, neuromuscular and biomechanical mechanisms involved in a) the development of knee joint osteoarthritis, and b) knee joint injury. This work includes development of training programmes to prevent progression of joint degeneration, and to lower risk of ligament injures. Grants from of NHMRC, ARC, NIH and AFL Research and Development Boards have funded much of this research, which has been published in leading biomechanics, neuroscience, orthopaedic and sports medicine journals. These include the Journal of Biomechanics, Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, Journal of Orthopaedic Research, Neuroscience Letters, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, among others. This work has also been awarded at many of international and national conferences.

David is a member of the International Society of Biomechanics, American Society of Biomechanics and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Biomechanics (ANZSB). He was a Past President of the ANZSB.
