Biography:
Emeritus Professor Alan Morton holds a Diploma of Physical Education from Sydney Teacher's College, a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master of Science degree and a Doctor of Education Degree from the University of Oregon. He has also been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Medicina Alternativa Institute and an Honorary Doctor of Education degree from the University of Victoria in Canada. He has been awarded Fellowships by The American College of Sports Medicine, Australian Sports Medicine Federation, the Institute of Biology in the United Kingdom, the Australian Institute of Biology, the Australian Council for Health , Physical Education and Recreation, and the Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science. He is accredited in Exercise Physiology and Sports Physiology by AAESS.
His areas of academic expertise include The physiological Bases of Human Physical Performance, Exercise-Induced Asthma and the Cardio-respiratory Responses to Acute and Chronic Exercise (training). He has also taught Research Methods and Statistics. Professor Morton has held appointments in universities in USA, Canada, Singapore and Australia.
Professor Morton has more than 270 publications in the form of books and booklets (13), book chapters (21),Research papers (181) and professional papers (56). He has also supervised successful research thesis students for the Bachelors Degree with Honours (18), the Master of Science Degree (24) and the Doctor of Philosophy Degree (17).
The Australian Government has awarded him The Australian Sports Medal for services to Rugby Union (2000), The Centenary Medal for service to the development of Sports Science in Australia (2003), and an appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the Queen's Birthday Honours List (2001) for the development of Sports Science in Australia especially the effects of physical training on the cardio-respiratory system (2002).
Alan Morton represented Australia in International Rugby Union Tests in 1957, 1958 and 1959. He coached the Western Australian Rugby team in inter-state and international games in1970.
